1. Social Sustainability
- A part of the Black Gold culture is the inclination to give back to
society. We continually support many avenues of philanthropy,
ranging from support of FFA and 4-H members, to support of the arts, to
the funding of student scholarships. Our willingness to help is
not only financial, but also in terms of human support. We realize
our national geographic footprint in combination with our small-town
heritage gives us a unique opportunity to apply a national perspective
to local philanthropic opportunities. Our social responsibilities
extend to our employees, our vendors and our customers.
2. Environmental
Sustainability - It is our objective to leave our environment in
an improved condition daily. Our business is a product of our
environment. We derive our income directly from the soil;
therefore, we attach a very high significance to our precious natural
resources and continually strive to maintain their value. Our
business model is one that uses a systems based approach that applies to
nearly every decision we make. We embrace Good Agricultural
Practices (GAP) and base our strategies on the best sciences available.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) has been a conscious part of our
production effort for generations. The protection
of our environment is a goal we take very seriously.
3. Economic Sustainability
- Profit is one of the necessary results our business must achieve in
order to remain successful. We maintain a long-term view when
setting expectations and realize we must remain profitable in order to
hire, train and sustain our workforce at all levels. We respect
our workforce and thrive in a company culture of honesty, hard work and
customer satisfaction. We believe a healthy company is a
financially sustainable company. We have an obligation to act in
partnership with our vendors and our customers so we together remain a
profitable integrated supply chain to help feed the world.
