The community:
The county seat of Pulaski County, Winamac is built on the Tippecanoe River and is home to more than 2400 people. Located 90 miles southeast of Chicago and 100 miles northwest of Indianapolis, it is close to many lakes and has an abundance of outdoor and wildlife attractions including canoeing, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, camping, cross-country skiing and hiking. The Culver Military Academy, home to the Black Horse Troop that has escorted many international dignitaries and American presidents, is located within 10 miles of the Black Gold farm.
Operations:
Black Gold is the largest potato grower in Indiana. Winamac, which is located in the North Central production area, and supplies the late summer and fall demand for chip potatoes. A modern grading facility with on-scale loading was built here in 2000, enhancing efficiency and capability. A new office and shop area was constructed in 2008 to accommodate growth in this area.
